Picture Perfect

It started with math; it ends with math.  It started with something yellow; it ends with someone yellow.

I guess it would be appropriate to commence this project with math, a topic that I can say represents me very well.  I participated in a math competition today, the focus of my mind for the past few days. The excitement that had been brewing culminated in the events of today, only to be transformed into pure disappointment and regret when faced with defeat.  Disappointment for losing and regret for failing to study properly. Still, despite the unwanted results, there was free lemonade.  It wasn’t very tasty.

Parallelogram, 365,000 Words, May 27, 2009

The only difference would be the fact that I’m now ending this project and that I didn’t have lemonade this time.

I’m definitely proud of the fact that I was able to see the consummation of this project. In the beginning, I was almost certain there would be a day that I forget to take a picture, and there were a few close calls.

I feel like this project couldn’t have come at a better time.  It was the year of many changes in my life in the ways I deal with people to the ways I think.  They haven’t all been good, but that’s not a reason to forget them.  With these pictures, I’ve been able to “document” these transitions in my life.

Now, I’m really thinking of pursuing this further.  Let’s see how far I’ll get.

Tonight, there was a school concert I was sort of pushed into doing stage tech work for.  Fortunately, a few of my friends were there, so I didn’t have to be bored as heck.

One of my favorite friends is the one pictured above.  She’ll probably never read this, and I don’t even know why it’s necessary for me to write about her, but I don’t care. It’s the day before the last day of Project 365; I think I’m entitled to write whatever the heck I want!

Anyway.

For one, she’s one of those friends that is hard to forget.  A lot of people complain about how their friends don’t hang out with them anymore, causing their friendships to buckle.  That’s dumb.  With this particular girl, it doesn’t matter how long it’s been since we’ve seen each other.  When we finally do and hang out, it’s evident nothing’s changed.  I owe it all to her.  It’s her personality.  I can’t find one word to describe it, and I’m not going to try.  (In other words, I’m too lazy and too dumb to find that perfect word.)

Here’s to eternal friendship, my Ecuagyptian!

Placement test today.  I felt so grown-up driving to college.

Show-and-Tell 6 (The Cat Wins)

All right, all right.  Before I get bombarded with “How could you?” comments (not that anyone actually reads this), let me start by saying that…

Eh, I don’t know where to start.

Hm…Perhaps a Show-and-Tell episode would be more appropriate.  *changes title*

Whoa!

What?

I was literally just brushing my teeth.

So?

So, you just zapped me out of my bathroom so I can do some unscheduled work.  What if I were tending to some other business?

Nothing is ever scheduled here.  And what are you talking about “zapped out”?

I’m going to simplify this for you as much as I can.  Basically, I was at home, doing my own thing because I knew I didn’t have to work today.  Your sudden change of mind literally pulled me out of my home so that I can serve Your Highness immediately.

How is that possible?

I don’t know. Something about neurons and dendrites.  It’s all in the Barron’s AP Bio book you were studying a couple of weeks ago.

Ok…

Well, now that I’m here.  What the heck do you want to—

Is that a f****** cat?  A f****** dead cat?

Yea.

What the f***?

OK, first, I want to say that it was either this picture or a picture of my lunch from a barbecue the school hosts every year.

Then why the f*** did you use the picture of this cat?

Well, this is something new.  And because I always post pictures of food!

Choosing not to post pictures of food don’t make you any skinnier!

*stare*

So, tell the audience why the f*** you’re showing them a dead cat.

Because it’s part of my Biology class.  We needed to start dissecting a cat and study its body.

F****** bio.  Of course.

Can you stop cursing?

*stare*  How can I stop, you murderer?  Weren’t you just at a Veggie Pride Parade?  Didn’t they advocate for animal rights?

You got me.  I’m a terrible person.

What will your friend Stef—Wait, what?

I’m a bad person.  I don’t deserve to live.

That’s right.

See you all next time.

Decline to Mediocrity

I remember when talent shows in the high school would draw in hundreds of people to the point that it would be hard to find a seat where you could enjoy the show.  This was three years ago, when I was a freshman.  When there was an awesome performance, I’d be pretty irked because everyone would be standing up, trying to get a better view of the act, thereby giving the people behind him or her a hard time.  It was a wave of frustration.  But when you did catch a glimpse of the performances, you’d be awestruck.

Now, the auditorium is only about a quarter full, which is proportional to the quality of the acts.  I mean, one can argue that the audience doesn’t really know what kind of acts they’ll see, so it’s not like anyone can prove that the higher the quality of the acts, the more people will come.

Anyway, my point is that the acts this year are pretty dull, not to mention bad.  Some might have just wanted five minutes of fame, not that being seen by twenty people would gain them acclaim.

However, there was one act that I truly enjoyed.  Now you’re going to have to believe me when I say I’m totally unbiased with this opinion, but my sister’s performance with her dance crew was good.  I don’t know.  Something about it made me smile.

</sentimental>

Or it can just be an older person mentality sort of thing.  I was a naive freshman, and maybe I was easy to please.  Now that I’ve seen more kinds of talents ranging from terrible to epic, I’m more critical.

So yea, where’s all the talent in our school?  Are we really just talentless?

Bitter Work

This week, we have two talent shows back-to-back—one on Thursday, one on Friday.  The first one is actually a competition between each class, each one having three acts.   The second one is just a show.

Today’s the dress rehearsal for the first show, aptly called “Battle of the Classes.”  Of course, I had to work for Stage Tech.  It’s definitely becoming bitter work.

Academic Euphoria

That’s right—the title is “Academic Euphoria.”  It felt good studying for my AP Bio exam for five hours at Barnes and Noble.  It’s tomorrow, and I think I’m ready.  I mean, I’ve had to stuff a year’s worth of information into my head for the past few days because my teacher hasn’t really done a good job doing that.  It felt good finally knowing things.
